Initial Examination

To begin, your dentist will review your medical and dental history, then complete a comprehensive dental exam.

Your exam will include a detailed examination of your teeth, gums, jaw and bite, an oral cancer screening and any required x-rays.

Treatment Plan

A long-term, customized dental treatment plan will be created for you based on your history and examination.

There will also be time to ask any questions you have regarding your oral health and treatment options.

A customized treatment plan is essential to a patient's continued oral health as it takes into account their individual needs, conditions and health status.

Because every patient is different, levels of care required may vary. Regardless of your needs, we look forward to serving you.

  • At what age should I bring my child to the dentist?

Although each child is different, we typically recommend bringing your child for their first dental appointment at one to two years old. And, bring them with you when you come to the dentist - this gives them the opportunity to get to know us before it's their turn for a visit - and definitely before they are feeling pain or discomfort.

Introducing our young patients gradually to dental treatment encourages them to become great patients who are at ease in the dentist's chair. By the time they are three or four, they'll have many positive dental experiences.

  • How often should I get my teeth cleaned?

For kids, depending on their age, we recommend exams and cleanings every six months - more frequently than adults, as their developing teeth change a lot in their formative years, and are more prone to cavities.

For adults, we assess your gums and teeth and make recommendations based on your present condition. This may change over time. For example, we may recommend appointments for every six months at one visit, but if your condition worsens, you may need to come more frequently. Exams should happen at least once yearly for adults.

When it comes to what's covered by insurance, many plans provide more cleaning benefits than we can use in one visit per year, so many times the visits are covered. Our insurance experts at the front desk will be happy to look at your benefits plan and let you know what's covered.

  • Does your dentist just look at your teeth?

Our patients are sometimes surprised when we discuss their gums, face, jaw and surrounding structures. You will also receive a free oral health cancer screening and a review of your overall oral health.

We look for any abnormalities or conditions that may be damaging to your teeth, for example: cavities, decay or deterioration. During a hygiene visit, they ensure dental restorations are in good condition and search for cavities. They use x-rays to see in between your teeth, where cavities typically start. Regular visits can mean the difference between getting a small filling or more extensive dental work, such as a root canal.
